It was a nice and warm Monday morning, although we had a little rain in the morning. For those who had their laundry out on the line early, it probably was almost dry before it rained.
The farmer next door is plowing, getting ready to plant corn. Some are getting ready to sow oats. Thus, the busy season has begun.
Some greenhouse flowers and plants are making their way to the produce auction. Son Perry’s sent some last week. I need to go and pick out my flowers before it gets picked out too much.
The evening of April 19, supper guests at Richard Miller’s were Joe and Saloma and girls, Wayne and Judy Miller and family, Marlin and Linda Miller and baby, Joe and I and some of granddaughter Edna Mae’s friends for Edna Mae’s birthday. Grilled chicken was enjoyed.
Also on Sunday evening at Dan and Sylvia Miller’s for a grilled chicken dinner were their daughter Rosanna, Aden and two children, son Danny Ray and wife Betty. After supper, Perry and Katie Ann and two sons visited at Dan’s.
Most Amish schools are getting ready to have their eighth-grade exams. School will let out in the next week or two. Our school plans to take its pupils to Niagara Falls for their seventh- and eighth-grade end of the year trip. Parents and grandparents are also invited to go along. We have two grandsons and two granddaughters who will graduate this spring.
The purple martins are back, but so far we aren’t lucky enough to have any. I’m still hoping.
We are looking forward to having daughter Betty and Melvin Byler coming for a visit the evening of April 23. They plan to spend the day with us on April 24, then have brunch at son Perry’s before leaving for home on April 25. They live in Mio, Mich.
David J. Yoder is still a patient at University Hospitals, taking treatments for his cancer. His brother Melvin recently passed away after complications following heart surgery. Our sympathy to the family.
Our sympathy also to the Bill Mullet family of Parkman, who recently passed away.
Bits and Pieces
Middlefield, Ohio: May 14, 1895
The weather has been unusually warm for several weeks, but last Saturday we had rain, followed by cool weather and a heavy frost on Sunday night. The fruit trees, grape vines and vegetables look cold and dreary.
A sad accident occurred on Sunday, May 5 at Nelson Ledges, a rocky picturesque place and a noted picnic resort. On the above day, two boys, aged 14 years old, were looking at the rocks, found a two pound stick of dynamite and thinking it was a stick of wood, they threw it against a rock, causing an explosion by which one of the boys was instantly killed and the other died several hours later.

Chuckles
Sam heard all about the great service in the Sleep Fine Hotel, so after dropping his stuff in his room, he excitedly headed down to the hotel lounge. He was only there for a few minutes when a beautifully dressed waitress came over and asked if he would like something to drink. Sam took in a deep breath, looked around at the beautiful lobby and asked, “What are my choices?”
The woman gave Sam a strange look and responded in an extra loud and slow voice, “Yeeesss or nooo.”
You all have a good week.
