Innovative STEM Learning
On May 8-9, sixth- and seventh-graders will spring forward with 24 hours of new learning and friendships at Night & Day @NDCL, an exciting new program to give students a unique experience of life in Lion Country.
Directed by math teacher Chris Stoffl and staffed by several NDCL teachers, Night & Day @NDCL features STEM learning, fun group and athletic activities, delicious meals and snacks and even stories and prayer around a nighttime bonfire on the school’s spectacular campus.
The program features separate learning tracks for boys and girls, with a number of shared activities for the whole group.
A highlight this year will be a geocaching experience in which students will use GPS systems to locate objects hidden on the campus.
Enrollment is limited to 30 students. Cost is $69 per child, but if groups of three or more friends enroll together, each pays just $49. Download the Night & Day @NDCL promotional flyer for complete details.

1st Place In Financial Literacy
Students Ben Wozniak, Colin O’Neil, Brian Nelson, Ben Pinzone, Amanda O’Reilly and Nora Nelson participated in the Mad City Money Financial Literacy scholarship competition at Lakeland Community College. Hosted by several local credit unions, the event included Cardinal Community Credit Union with whom NDCL has active partnership.
Eighteen teams from the area schools competed. Among them were: Madison, Mentor, Lake Catholic, St. Ignatius, Chardon and Mentor. All were given profiles for a fake life, including income and debts. The challenge was to budget for monthly expenses so that at the end of the month, the checking account was as near as possible to $100.
“We all had to make smart financial choices and work as a team to make sure that if one person spent a little bit too much a different team member spent a little less than budgeted” said O’Reilly.
NDCL’s team, Scowgers, achieved the best final balance with $99.90. The first place prize was a $3,000 scholarship. Additionally, every participant received a ticket to Cedar Point.
Journalists Rack Up 15 Awards
Student journalists who produce NDCL’s yearbook and news magazine won 14 individual and one all-school award in the Ohio Scholastic Media Association’s (OSMA) annual competition. NDCL was the only Catholic high school recognized in the contest, which includes schools throughout the entire state of Ohio.
The Mane Page, the news magazine, earned a second-place award–NDCL’s best showing ever in the OSMA competition. This was the first year NDCL qualified for the OSMA yearbook contest.
NDCL students also won more individual awards than ever before:
Superior Award: Allyson Eippert, Newswriting; Elizabeth Pona, Sports Page Layout; and Sidney Fimiani, General Feature.
