Hello from Geauga County, Amish Country,
It was a nice morning on Aug. 10 until it started to rain after lunch. Most of the clothes were dry before it rained. We certainly need the rain, as it was getting quite dry.
Well, our camping trip to Mio, Mich., is now over, and all that’s left are precious memories. We camped at granddaughter Lorena and Loren Miller’s. Going with us were daughter Sylvia, Dan and four children, son Perry, Katie Ann and three sons, son Richard, Susan and children, son Ray and Judy and two children, granddaughter Ruth Ann, John Mark and three children, Danny Ray and betty and also grandson Myron and Jonathon.
We left the morning of Aug. 6 and returned on Aug. 8. Also, going along to visit our sisters was Mrs. Edna Byler.
On Aug. 7, sisters Clara Kauffman, Sylvia Miller, Edna and I visited at sister Liz and Joe Yoder’s. Joe is not well due to a heart condition. They recently moved into a new house at their daughter Clara and Marion Bontrager’s. We served ice cream and other snacks for Liz and Joe’s birthdays, which are both this month.
Spending the week of Aug. 3 at Paradise Lake were Marty and Barbara Mast and family and Wayne and Judy Miller and family.
Going to Cook Forrest in Pennsylvania the week of Aug. 10 were Philip and Martha Miller and sons. I hope they have a nice week.
The men with children going to Sunny Hope School are busy trying to get the addition ready before school starts. They have added on an addition, as they needed more room.
Announced for marriage are Regina, daughter of son Ray and Judy Miller, and Eddie, son of Marty and Susan Miller, to be married on Aug. 25. Planning to be married on Aug. 27 are Kathy, daughter of Joe and Betty Yoder, and Harvy, son of Marvin and Ida Weaver. Wedding services will be here at our place.
Planning to take lunch down to sister Fannie and Melvin Yoder on Aug. 11 were sister Edna Byler, Barbara Yutzy, Ellen Hershberger and I. Fannie is still using a walker to get around.
Bits and Pieces
Welshfield, Ohio: Aug. 24, 1891
We have fine weather at present, although a little dry.
The oats crop is very good. Wheat is not grown to a great extent in this locality. Late corn is not very good on account of our dry weather.
Apples and peaches are also not very plentiful, but raspberries and blackberries are a good crop.
There was quite a wreck on the N.P. & O.R.R. Railroad in Garrettsville last Tuesday. A double header of 60 cars, some loaded with coal, some with ore and some oil tanks ran into the hind end freight train of five or six cars. The caboose was smashed into kindling and the front engine was also considerably smashed. Nobody was injured.

Miss Charlene Mason sang, “I Will Not Pass This Way Again,” giving obvious pleasure to the congregation.
Ladies, don’t forget the rummage sale. It’s a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Don’t forget to bring your husband!
Weight Watchers will meet at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Please use the large double door at the side entrance.
You all have a good week.
