Westwood Student Council
Students at Westwood Elementary in grades three through five are running for student council. Fifth-graders run for president and vice president, fourth-graders run for secretary and third-grade students run for treasurer.
Campaigners prepared a short speech about how they would make a difference at Westwood Elementary. Following the speeches, students returned to their classrooms to vote.
Project Real World
Fourth-grade students at Westwood Elementary School interviewed for classroom jobs on Wednesday as part of the Project Real World program. Children chose three jobs in which they were most interested, built resumes and learned interviewing skills during the first month of school.
Students will be selected to fill classroom jobs based upon the scores that they earned in their interviews. Throughout the year, in addition to their jobs as fourth-grade students, they will learn associated job skills.
The fourth-grade teachers and students extend a special thanks to the professionals who conducted the interviews: Dr. Andrew Matlock, Betsy Kling, Carol Hren, Vicki Duricky, Randy Yaist, Sean Whelan, Howard Hren, Sally Siegler, Jim Russo, Sandy Siegler, Stephanie Gruber, Noelle Dull, Josh Gamiere, Denise Brewster, Judy Barnhart, Linda Domonkos, Bill Thomas and Tracy Suba.
Anti-Bullying Assembly
Students at West Geauga Middle School enjoyed an anti-bullying assembly featuring Judson Laipply, whose message and YouTube video “Evolution of Dance” promotes respect, love and kindness to his audiences.
“Our Acceptance Committee and Mrs. Link have worked diligently to put together a program that has the ability to reach all of our students. Along with Mrs. Timmons and our guidance staff, this program has helped to create a safe environment for all students to learn,” said Mr. Kish, principal of WGMS.
A generous donation from a parent of a middle school student made the assembly possible.
