Stockings for Soldiers

Notre Dame Elementary School Student Council members partnered with the DeJohn Funeral Home and the Capretta family in a special outreach program, “Stockings for Soldiers.” The program serves troops stationed overseas and their families.

Students participated by donating items such as soap, sunscreen, toothpaste, skincare products and nonperishable products. On Oct. 30, student council members filled the stockings with donated items and prepared them for delivery to the troops.

Upcycling Trash into Flashlights

NDES fourth-grade STEM students upcycled old eyeglass cases and harnessed the power of electricity into flashlights. Students have been exploring the fundamentals of electricity over the past few weeks. Next, they applied their knowledge by creating a flashlight complete with a magnetic switch.

The Gathering Place

The Notre Dame Elementary School sixth-graders participated in a service project for The Gathering Place on Oct. 30. The students worked on making pink fleece pillows for the breast cancer patients who visit The Gathering Place. They completed 36 pillows.

The afternoon began with a talk from Lisa Newburger, a volunteer at The Gathering Place. She shared a video and answered questions about the important work of The Gathering Place, a non-profit, community-based cancer support center that addresses the social, physical and spiritual needs of individuals with cancer, their families and friends.
