Everyone Wins Basketball
West Geauga boys varsity basketball coach Jeff Javorek along with assistant coach Frank Vosicky and freshman coach Hayden Diedrich traveled with the team out to Solon to play a game with the Empower Sports team. The Wolverines and Empower team banded together on and off the court. The energy the players of both teams exuded were genuine examples of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
Empower Sports, which is run by former West Geauga alumnus Tom Heines, “offers league programs that give athletes with special needs the chance to play alongside their typical functioning peers.” The games are structured in a way that combines the players from both teams, allowing them to play with their typical peers and not against them.
“To us, sports are just high-energy social opportunities. Our coaches care about our players and work hard to foster teamwork and relationships among everyone involved,” said Heines.
Their mission is simple, “using sports and exercise to enrich the lives of athletes of diverse challenges and promote kindness, character, and service.”
Holiday Shopping Open House
For the second time, R.C. Lindsey Elementary PTO is opening its annual Holiday Shop to everyone, On Dec. 10 from 6-8 p.m., the PTO is hosting a holiday shopping open house. There will be several vendors and many unique gifts and products available. It is a great way to get all holiday shopping done in one location and find gifts that cannot be found anywhere else.
The open house is at Robert C. Lindsey Elementary School, 11844 Caves Road, Chester Township. Vendors will be set up in the main hallway of the school and light refreshments will be provided. There will also be a wrapping station so shoppers can have all gifts wrapped before they go home.
The PTO Holiday Shop is a perfect place to get stocking stuffers and small gifts for everyone. Most of the items are 25 cents to $3, with a few exceptional items priced at $4, and all proceeds go to support the PTO.
The West Geauga Spirit Shop will also be there with West G apparel and spirit merchandise. Their sales support high school and middle school athletics through the West Geauga Athletic Boosters.
There is a great group of vendors at the open house. There will be locally crafted maple syrup, maple candy and apple butter. The Turner in the Woods will be on site with handcrafted wood turned items ranging from ornaments to cutting boards. Thirty-one Gifts will be there with trendy and affordable purses, totes, bags and accessories. Glass That Rocks creates mosaic art pieces, rock, semi-precious stone necklaces and upcycled T-shirts, skirts and tees.
