Help a Family
The Little Porkers 4-H group is collecting nonperishable food items to help a deserving local family this holiday season. There is a collection container inside the lobby of the Hambden Township Hall. Feel free to drop off donations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays until the week before Christmas. The community’s help with this project will be greatly appreciated.
Christmas Tree Sale
Hambden Fire Department is once again selling beautiful Christmas trees at the fire station. The tree lot is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.
It is a very important fundraiser for the fire department, so be sure to check out the trees and support the fire department.
Christmas Tree Recycling
Once again the question arises, what to do with the tree after Christmas? The township will be helping with that again this season by providing a dumpster at the township park from about Dec. 26 through mid-January.
Even though a grant for tree recycling is no longer available, the township wants to continue to provide this service to its residents. Universal Disposal has given Hambden a very reasonable rate for the dumpster and its removal.
No one will be able to assist residents with putting their trees in the dumpster; please do not leave them on the ground. Thank you.
Township Office HoursĀ And Hall Rental
The township office is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
If anyone is interested in renting the township hall, call administrative assistant Mary Ann Dottore Tuesday through Friday during office hours.
The cost to rent the hall is $25, with a security deposit of $100. The security deposit will be returned as long as the hall is cleaned up after the event and the trash is removed.
The hall is available to Hambden residents only and there is no smoking or alcoholic beverages allowed. There is a small kitchen available for heating things up and a refrigerator to store food during the event. A sheet with all rules and regulations will be handed out at the time of rental.
Zoning Update
The township hoped to have a newsletter out to its residents before the end of the year, but with everyone’s busy schedules this time of year, updates will just have to be provided a bit at a time through this article.
Zoning Inspector Darlene Welch wants everyone to know that over the summer, residents were having a problem with persistent salesmen, or transient vendors, approaching their homes. These vendors indicated that they had obtained a zoning certificate to allow them to sell door to door. This was completely false. This activity is not regulated by a zoning certificate of any kind.
Because the township was contacted for assistance with this problem, on Nov. 18 during a public meeting, township trustees passed a resolution to prohibit transient vendors in the community pursuant to the Ohio Revised Code 505.94. This does not apply to any person invited by the resident to sell, offer for sale or solicit orders for the delivery of goods or any person who represents any entity exempted from taxation. It also does not include an auction or an auctioneer company licensed by the State of Ohio.
The Geauga County Sheriff’s Office and the Geauga County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office have been notified of the passage of this resolution so if a resident is approached by an unwanted salesperson, he or she has the right to contact the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office and advise them of this situation.
The Holidays Have Arrived
What a wonderful stretch of warm weather we’re having. It’s hard to believe that Christmas is just a few short weeks away. Residents have some great opportunities to help support Hambden business owners during the holiday season.
Bryant’s Forever Green can help with holiday greenery, Christmas trees and gifts. Gift certificates are available at Mr. Hero in Hambden RediGo. The Hambden Country Inn can offer great food for dinner or takeout and snacks are always available when getting gas at Hambden Corners. The Taltys have a great business called The Nest that just recently moved to Chardon Square and is full of amazing Christmas gifts. Let me know if you have other suggestions.
Merry Christmas and happy New Year to everyone.
