Hello from Geauga County, Amish Country,
It’s not quite so cold on Feb. 15, and the weather forecast is warmer by the weekend. It takes much fuel to keep these old houses warm.
On Feb. 14, sons Richard and family, Wayne and family, and Joe and I were at son Mark’s for a delicious brunch. Marks had butchered their pigs and Richard and Joe helped, thus the invitation for brunch. We had home cured bacon, sausage, omelets, biscuits and gravy, home raised eggs and toast, plus fresh fruit. There was no need for dinner.
Reports for Chester M. Byler and Wayne M. Detweiler weren’t very good. They both have cancer. I haven’t heard what or if treatments they will have. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families.
On the evening of Feb. 9, our singing group went to visit and sing for the Daniel A. Burkholder family. He is recovering from surgery on a sore on his back. He fell a year ago, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.
The annual spell down at our Amish schools was on Feb. 12. Ours was held at Troy Parochial on Patch Road. Our school got one first, two seconds and one fourth place. Good job, students.
The Miller family women, cousins, mom and grandma visited granddaughter Eddie Regina the night of Feb. 15. They bought a home on Udall Road.
Our grandchildren are taking turns to surprise us once a month. In January, granddaughter Rosanna and Aden Troyer and children came for my birthday with cake, ice cream and snacks. We had a very enjoyable evening. Dan and Sylvia and children also joined us. This month, it’s grandson Danny Ray and Betty’s turn, so they plan to take us to Tia-Pan, a new place for Joe. Thanks to Rosanna for getting this together.
I suppose this cold snap will put sugaring on the back burner for those who have tapped already. Hopefully, they’ll have a good year.
The mothers of Saw Mill Lane School took hot lunch to school on Feb. 16. It is always a treat for the pupils and teachers.
On Feb. 9, Katie Ann Miller, Danny and Sylvia Miller, John Mat, Danny Ray, Betty, Aden and Rosanna Troyer and children and I took hot lunch to the children and teachers at Sunny Hope School. This past summer, they added on a big, beautiful addition giving them much more room. It is so touching to see how dedicated the teachers are. It is a truly worthwhile place to visit.
Chuckles
A man fell down a flight of stairs and somebody rushes over to him and asks, “Did you miss a step?”
“No,” he answered. “I hit every one of them.”
There’s only one endeavor in which you can start at the top and that’s digging a hole.
You all have a good week.
