Hello from Geauga County, Amish Country

Good morning on this sunless March 1 morning. At least it’s not very cold. Spring birds are coming back, chirping their happy songs, so spring is on its way.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mrs. Clara Miller and family since the passing of her daughter Susie. Susie was born with a liver disease and had a liver transplant quite a few years ago. She passed away the morning of Feb. 29 in University Hospitals in Cleveland from double pneumonia. The funeral is March 3. Susie was a big help to her mother, helping in their store. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

On Feb. 29, my niece, Mrs. Jonas Edna Mae Miller, and Mrs. Ben Fannie Troyer, of Troutville, Pa., were at niece Ellen Hershberger’s for the day. Also spending the day there were sisters Fannie Yoder, Edna Byler and I, cousins Laura Hershberger, Mrs. Al Nancy Hershberger, Barbara Yutzy, Mrs. Dan Sylvia Miller and Mrs. Gertrud Byler. We had a delicious lunch and nice time visiting.

Miss Linda Yutzy has moved into the basement at her brother Noah and Barbara’s. She has some health issues, so Noahs will be able to help her along. Visitors and mail would be very welcome. Her address is Miss Linda Yutzy, 16990 Nash Rd., Middlefield, OH 44062.

There is lots of flu going around. Our school, Saw Mill Lane, did not have school on Feb. 26 on account of too many being absent.

Son Wayne, Judy and two little boys are expected back from Florida on March 1, after having been gone for 10 days.

The evening of Feb. 28, our children and some of the grandchildren were at our place for a belated birthday bash for me. Ice cream, cake and snacks were enjoyed. We were glad to have Philip and Martha and boys join us. We had a very enjoyable evening.

From the Past: Feb. 15, 1899

We have nice weather at present.

Church services were held at J.D. Byler’s today.

On Tuesday, John E. Miller will move on his farm he bought near Huntsburg, Ohio.

Mose J. Miller, of Charm, Ohio, bought a farm of 100 acres in the eastern part of this township.

Peter M. Miller and wife of Holmes County were called to the bedside of their sick daughter, Mrs. Eli J. Miller.

J.C. Schlabach’s baby had the measles, and then it turned into pneumonia.

S.S. Yoder is able to be getting around again.

Emanuel Schlabach’s son died yesterday, with the funeral being tomorrow at 1 o’clock.

Chuckles

An evangelist once stayed at the home of a family with a little girl. On Sunday morning when it was time to leave for church, the little girl said she was not going.

“Why?” asked her mother. “Are you sick?”

“No,” said the little girl. “I don’t like Mr. the evangelist. I heard him preach before.”

“Why don’t you like him?” asked the mother.

“Because,” said the little girl, “he preaches so long I can’t keep awake, and he preaches so loud, I can’t go to sleep.”

“Oh, Mr. Millyuns!”

“Well?”

“Do you think a rich man can go through the eye of a needle?”

“I don’t know my boy. However, I will say that my lawyers have dragged me though some very small loopholes.”

You all have a good week.
