8th-Grade Visits Capitol
On April 26, NDES students embarked on their annual eighth-grade trip to Washington, D.C. The students visited the Iwo Jima Memorial and Arlington Cemetery. At Arlington, they had the honor of laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
The next day, the students toured many sites, including the Lincoln, Pentagon, Korean and Vietnam memorials. At the Capitol Building, students met with Congressman David Joyce followed by a special prayer service led by Deacon Vince Belsito at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. On Thursday, students toured the battlefields at Gettysburg and visited the Flight 93 Memorial before returning home.
NDES Entrepreneurs
On April 27, budding fourth-grade entrepreneurs held their annual business fair. As a culminating activity to their unit on economics, fourth-grade students applied economic concepts taught in class to create, advertise and sell their product. All profits from the business fair were donated to St. Julie School in Africa to assist with student tuition.
