Hello from Geauga County, Amish Country,
It was a beautiful afternoon on May 8. There was plenty of sunshine and a little breeze, a perfect spring day.
The funeral of Amanda J. Byler, 77, special daughter of Joe and Cora Byler, was on May 9. At one time, she had worked at Giant Eagle. She had her home at her brother Mahlon and Mary Byler’s on Larson-West, where the funeral was held. She will be greatly missed by her many special friends.
On May 5, we had wedding services in our shop for granddaughter Susan and Mark Yoder, bringing guests from Pennsylvania, Mio, Mich., English, Ind., and Jasper, N.Y., plus many local folks, with around 400 guests. It was a nice, but cool, day. The rain held off, which as a blessing. Grandparents Joe and Emma Weaver and Mrs. Melvin Yoder were able to attend. Daughter Betty and granddaughter Lorena were our overnight guests on Wednesday, and then left for home Thursday afternoon.
Planning to be married on May 17 are Erma, daughter of widow Mrs. Marty Erma Miller, and James, son of Eli and Laura Kurtz. Church services are at Jerry Miller’s on Shedd Road.
Lawns are needing to be mowed twice a week and hopefully now if it warms up, we can get gardens planted. I still need some raised gardens. Greenhouses have opened up. Son Perry’s have their greenhouses filled again since the fire in their greenhouse pretty much destroyed everything. They are open for business again. There are lots of beautiful hanging baskets, planters and flats for planting in flowerbeds.
It looked like it was going to be a nice day on Monday, with rain in the forecast for the next several days.
Granddaughter Rosanna has a doctor’s appointment in Warren at Dr. Lippy for a checkup for her son Adam. So, some of us plan to go along and do some shopping while she’s at the doctor.

Nice weather at present.
Farmers are getting ready to sow oats.
Health is good in general.
There is considerable moving done this spring. Eighteen families moved to this county this spring, and all like it here.
Farmers are still making maple syrup, but I think it is about played out. This was a poor season for it. It sells at 50 to 55 cents a gallon.
A car load of veal calves were shipped last Saturday from Midd.
Stephan Yoder went to Holmes County to buy a car load of dairy cows. Cows are very scarce here this spring; they sell as high as $58 at sales.
Yours Truly,
J.J. Glick
Chuckles
Three men were bragging about how they had given their new wives duties. Terry, married to a woman from America, said he told his wife she had to do all the dishes and housecleaning that needed to be done at their house. It took a couple of days, but by the third day, the house was clean and the dishes were done. Jimmy married a woman from Australia. He bragged he gave her orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. The first day he didn’t see any results, but the next day, it was better. By the third day, the house was clean, the dishes were done and he had a huge dinner on the table. The third man, married to a Scottish girl, boasted he told her that her duties were to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn’t see anything, but by the third day, most of the swelling had gone out of his left eye. Enough to fix a bite to eat, load the dishwasher, fill the washing machine and call a landscaper.
Who do you think had the smartest wife?
You all have a good week.
