Shearer Perfection Contest

Three Notre Dame Elementary School students made their mark in the Shearer Perfection contest on July 29. Fifth-grader Kate Petersen took first place for her “American Flag” and won a $5,000 savings bond or $2,500 cash. Eighth-grader Melissa Murray took third place for her “chair” and eighth-grader Kelly Mascaro received an honorable mention for her “dress.”

This is the fifth year Shearer’s Snacks partnered with the National Museum of Education to offer the Shearer Perfection student contest. Ohio students in fourth through eighth grades were challenged to create an invention using Shearer’s snack food bags. Entries were judged based on creativity, usefulness, feasibility and marketability. More than 200 students submitted entries and the top six received a check for a savings bond. The awards presentation was Friday at corporate headquarters in downtown Massillon.
