Granny`s Kids

The Granny`s Kids 4-H Club met in Chagrin Falls at Mrs. Lynn Kitko`s house on June 10. The meeting was mostly about rabbits with a special speaker on how to win with one’s rabbit projects. Mrs. Kitko passed out rabbit raising guides.

In the business part of the meeting, members were reminded to make appointments for their miscellaneous project judging with the main office and discussed making no-sew blankets for veterans and cleaning up yards as service projects.

Lina Ferg demonstrated how to clip toenails on guinea pigs and rabbits and Ben Ferg led a rabbit trivia game. Members were encouraged to enter the photography and safety poster contests for the Geauga Fair, due Aug. 1. Then, Bobby Williams gave an illustrated talk on safety tips for good gardening.

At the next meeting on June 24 at 7 p.m., the group will be practicing for all the animal skill-a-thons. (Submitted by Lina Ferg, news reporter)

Bunny Bunch

On June 7, Bunny Bunch had a special guest speaker from Lubrizol Toastmasters’ Ms. Bridget O’Dell. She shared some tips with the club on how to speak in front of the judges for showmanship. The tips apply to any speaking situation.

Ms. O’Dell advised:

  • Prepare … think ahead of what you are going to say (time it, practice in front of a mirror, record yourself);
  • Be confident … use good posture and be proud of what you have learned;
  • Loud and slow … speak up and take your time;
  • Breathe … a cleansing breath can boost your confidence and get you focused;
  • Smile … make the time pleasant for you and for the judge.
