The Geauga Dairymen 4-H Club met at the Hastings Dairy Farm on Aug. 4 in Burton. The meeting started with members leading the Pledge of Allegiance and the 4-H Pledge. Old business included the treasurer’s report, the minutes of the last meeting and details about the dairy basket to be auctioned at the upcoming Geauga County Fair.

There was a lot of new business, which included describing and demonstrating new showmanship rules. The club voted for junior fair king and queen. Money was approved to donate to the 4-H Scholarship Fund, to buy bedding straw and topline supplies and to buy gift cards for the animal haulers.

Sign-up sheets went around for clipping the animals, for barn duty times and for bringing supplies to the fair. Members discussed and planned the barn setup day and reviewed their responsibilities while participating at the fair.

Owen demonstrated the process of churning butter from fresh cow’s milk, Travis demonstrated forced induction on a car’s engine and Paul demonstrated how to ride a unicycle. As a recreation activity, members were given the opportunity to try riding the unicycle.

The meeting concluded by writing buyer’s letters and registering the animals for the 4-H and open class shows.

The club met again at 10 a.m. on Aug. 25 in the Geauga County Fair Dairy barn. (Submitted by Paul, news reporter)
