Dr. Augustine Kellis was presented with the Ohio State Friend of 4-H Award on June 13 at the Greener Fields 4-H Club meeting at the Geauga County Fairgrounds.

Greener Fields has collected food for the local Geauga Hunger Task Force pantries since the club’s inception in 2010. In 2015, Dan Takacs asked Dr. Augustine Kellis for a donation for the collection. Kellis responded that he wanted to research the GHTF first. He did and very much liked what he discovered as he joined the board. Kellis donated $2,000 that year. He approached Dan and challenged him to start a food drive inviting all the county 4-H clubs to join in and said he would match their efforts. Dan and the club accepted his generous offer and the food drive began. In 2022, the club surpassed over $250,000 raised since the food drive’s inception.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to be able to help those in need in our community. I have been so impressed by the hard work and commitment with which the 4-H youth have tackled this project. I foresee great success in all of their futures,” commented Kellis.
