Geauga Beef & Swine
The Geauga Beef & Swine 4-H Club held its meeting on Feb. 1 at 4 p.m. in the school building at the Geauga County Fairgrounds. During the meeting, members discussed the upcoming Northern Maple Classic Steer and Heifer Show scheduled for April 19 at the Geauga County Fairgrounds.
Members were reminded about the club’s community service project of helping serve pancakes at the Farm Bureau pancake breakfast. The club also voted to participate in the Geauga County 4-H window display in March. Fundraising options for the upcoming year were reviewed and discussed.
The club discussed poultry projects and gathered information from members planning to take poultry so orders can be placed accordingly. Members were also informed about a beef showmanship clinic hosted by the Lake County Farm Bureau on February 21 at the Workman family farm in Huntsburg.
A parent spoke to the club about the importance of purchasing a Geauga County Agricultural Society membership each year and encouraged families to consider purchasing memberships rather than exhibitor passes. Club President Ben Joles shared information about Camp Whitewood and encouraged member participation.
Seven club members presented their assigned species reports. The meeting concluded with members participating in a livestock-themed Jeopardy game created by Griffin Lehman. (Submitted by Cardinal Middle School fifth-grader Logan Workman, news reporter)
