Hello from Geauga County Amish Country,
It was another beautiful morning on July 27, although a little muggy. It didn’t cool off quite as much during the night. These are the dog days of summer.
Born to Allen Ray and Marcie Miller on July 12, a son, Isaiah. He has one brother, Jesse. Grandparents are Ray and Judy Miller and Daniel and Martha Gingerich. Great-grandparents are Joe and Cindy Miller and Dan and Lydia Gingerich and I.
Mrs. John Mat Miller, of Gates Road, had the misfortune of falling and breaking her shoulder. At first they thought she would need surgery, but then it was decided to just wrap it, hoping it will heal without surgery.
My thoughts and prayers are with niece Ellen Hershberger, as she is slowly losing out with her cancer. She is being tenderly taken care of by her sister, Barbara and Noah.
Son Richard, Sue and family left for Upper Michigan the morning of July 27. They plan to start for home on July 31 and stop in Mio, Mich., at his sister’s, Betty and Melvin Byler, staying for the night and leaving for home on Aug. 1.
The morning of July 30, Matthew and Betty Miller and five little boys, Danny Ray and Betty Miller and I also plan to leave for Mio. I plan to visit daughter Betty and Melvin’s family and also spend some time with my three sisters. We plan to stay for a week. Matthews and Danny Rays will camp out at their cousin’s, Nathan and Norman Ray Byler. On Friday evening, while Richards are at Melvin’s, they plan to have a pig roast that Matthew will furnish.
On July 23, sister Emma Weaver, of Jasper, N.Y., came down with a load coming for a wedding. So, we picked up sister Fannie Yoder and went down to sister Elmina’s for the day. We also made a quick stop at niece Ellen’s. In the evening, I got company. They were Joe, Mary and daughter, Nancy Yoder, Crist and Susan Miller, Albert and Elizabeth Miller, Allen Miller and Mrs. Andy Nancy Yoder. Sons Joe and Richard joined us, too. They brought snacks and coffee. We had a very nice evening. Thanks to all.
The auction on the evening of July 24 was well attended. Middlefield Bank bought one or two quilts again. We appreciate their support. The benefit was for our Amish community health aid. A big thank-you goes to all who helped in any way.
Gardens are doing great, with many vegetables being canned and frozen. Peaches and blueberries are being enjoyed, too. It is a busy time of the year. All too soon fall will be here.
The evening of July 27, son Ray had a get-together for our family to put metal roofing on his new barn and shop on state Route 88. Then we had a cookout.

“And how are you feeling today?” the surgeon asked with a smile as the patient was wheeled into the operating room.
“Fine, but a little nervous,” the patient said. “This is my first operation.”
“I know the feeling,” replied the surgeon. “It’s my first operation, too.”
A Thought to Remember
The glory of each morning is that it offers us a chance to begin again.
You all have a good week.
