Fahrenheit 451 Opens at GLTG
May 20-22
Geauga Lyric Theater Guild opens its seventh year of the teen drama project with “Fahrenheit 451,” based on Ray Bradbury’s classic novel and play.
Imagine a world where reading books was a crime. Fireman didn’t put out fires, but burned books and houses if the residents had a secret library. “Fahrenheit 451,” the temperature that paper burns, details such a future. People are tuned in to their televisions and earpieces and sleep and wake by medical means.
Director Angela Miloro-Hansen has turned the stage into a background of stacked and burning books. The striking design frames a screen featuring projections which provide different backdrops for the action. A small cast acts out characters from bored housewives, a free spirited teenager, firemen on their mission, and a group of people determined to keep the books alive in their hearts.
Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for seniors and students and can be purchased online at www.geaugatheater.org or by calling the box office at 440-286-2255.
Geauga Lyric Theater is located at 101 Water St. in Chardon.
