As the summer winds down, Geauga Lyric Theater presents the last in its series of summer workshop shows. “School of Rock,” based on the movie with Jack Black, and currently running on Broadway, will send everyone into August with a bang.
Performed by the Advanced Workshop, an auditioned group ranging in age from 11 to 17, the students rock and sing along with playing keyboards, electric guitars and drums on stage. Angela Miloro-Hansen, director of this group is excited to see how far they’ve come this summer.
The story is about Dewey, an out of work wanna-be rock musician played by Hunter Sarbach. Dewey steals the identity of his friend Ned (Jonathan Ward), so he can make some money as a substitute teacher in a conservative private school. Much to the other teachers’ dismay and the students’ surprise, he becomes a favorite as he secretly forms the kids into a rock ‘n’ roll band that he wants to enter into a Battle of the Bands.
Funny, rocking and with characters everyone will love, don’t miss “School of Rock” at Geauga Lyric Theater Aug. 4-6 at 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 7 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $6 for students and seniors, and $8 for adults. Tickets can be purchased online at www.geaugatheater.org, at the box office, or by calling 440-286-2255. The Geauga Lyric Theater is at 101 Water St. in Chardon.
