The GANG Welcomes Clay Artist, Educator

On Jan. 20, the Geauga Arts Network Group (GANG) program will feature Theresa Yondo, who has been creating imaginative and whimsical art out of clay since 1977.

This educational program, which is free and open to the general public, will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. at Heinen’s Cafe, 402 Center St., Chardon. No reservations are necessary.

Yondo is both an artist and educator, offering private ceramics classes at her studio in Russell Township and providing a variety of art programming for the residents of the

McGregor Retirement Community in East Cleveland.

Her work has been exhibited in galleries and shows throughout the Midwest, including the Chautauqua Crafts Alliance in New York and the American Craft Council Shows.

Her ceramics, which include both functional and decorative pieces, are sold in galleries on both the west and east sides of Cleveland, as well as in Carmel, Calif., and Columbus.

Her program for the GANG will feature examples of her work and stories about her life and influences as an artist and educator.

For more information, call Joanne Durante at 440-729-6481.

Bye Bye Birdie Hits The Geauga Stage

Appropriately opening shortly after what would have been Elvis Presley’s 80th birthday, “Bye Bye Birdie” opens at Geauga Lyric Theater on Jan. 23. The musical comedy is based on an Elvis Presley like character who gets drafted into the army. Conway Birdie embarks on a farewell tour to end with a special kiss for one lucky fan. Along the way, a tangle of love and broken hearts follow Conrad, his agent, the lucky fan and her boyfriend, family and a host of others.

The Skip Kelley Youth Production is named for Stuart Skip Kelley, who was a strong proponent of involving youth in every aspect of theater production. Skip, GLTG’s tech director, passed away in 2005 and left an indelible mark on the young men and women he inspired over the years, many of whom moved on to careers in theater, sound production and lighting design.

The show runs Jan 23 through Feb. 8. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m.; Sunday performances are at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $14 and $10 for youth 12 and under. Marquee sponsor is Lake Health.

Geauga Theater is at 101 Water St. in Chardon. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.geaugatheater.org or call the box office at 440-286-2255.
