‘Aristocats’ Purr Their Way into GLTG

July 23-25

Geauga Lyric Theater Guild’s summer elementary musical workshop production of Disney’s “Aristocats Kids” hits the stage Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday.

The lively musical is based on the 1970s Disney film by the same name and features 26 area youth in a six-week educational workshop led by Julie Douglass, with musical direction from Mayim Hamblen. Douglass and Hamblen are assisted by Gabby Nedrow, as instructional assistant, and a team of interns including Kathyrn Molle, Sydnee Raines, Chris Jerme, Celine Kowall, Cara Robbins and Kaia Buloski.

The workshop received a special lesson on jazz by Chris Anderson of the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. Ann Marie Wolfe of Geauga Music Center instructed the group on how to hold and simulate playing brass instruments for their Alley Cat Band. Karen Porter held an animal makeup demonstration for the cast that ranges in age from 7 through 12 years old.

“Civic responsibility is an important value that GLTG supports, so we have made blankets to be used for 50/50 raffles each performance, with the money split between GLTG educational programming and the Rescue Village Humane Society,” stated Douglass.

Cast and theater patrons are encouraged to bring the following items from the shelter’s wish list: gently used washcloths and towels, and canned or dry Purina brand cat or dog food. Items will be collected in a box in the theater lobby.

Tickets are only $6 and can be purchased at the door, at the GLTG box office, by phone at 440-286-2255 or online at www.geaugatheater.org.
