Burton-Middlefield Rotary Wraps Up Successful Raffle

Laura Jones, of Chardon, won a 2020 bright red Ford Mustang in Burton on July 2. The Mustang was donated by Pat Preston, of Preston Superstore, in the fall of 2021 to the Burton-Middlefield Rotary Club (BMR), which in turn sold 6,000 Maple Splash Raffle tickets with the help of other Rotary clubs and East Geauga Kiwanis over the next eight months.

The project grossed $140,000. After expenses, all funds will be distributed to many fabulous worthy causes. All involved in raising the funds are volunteers.

Other prizewinners were: John Yaros, $2,500; Curt Johnson, diamond pendant; Kevin Cook, $500; Tom Steinbauer, vacation package; Sue Wayman, chainsaw package; Ed McIntyre, 60-inch TV; Dawn Brazie, $500; Bruce Barham, Pedego Comfort Cruiser; Justin Geiss, kayak; Bill Dieterle, $500; Daryl Hart, DeWalt tool package; Dianne Kellogg, generator; Jason Seyer, $1,000; and Robert DeMattia, $500.

The revenue generated by the raffle will be used by BMR for several service projects and will make contributions to other Geauga County service organizations.

For the second year, the BMR announced the grand prizewinners at the Maple Splash Raffle held on the grounds of Century Village in Burton Village. More than 20 Geauga County nonprofits that were supported by the Maple Splash Raffle set up tables and provided fun and information for attendees. Several other creative opportunities for winning took place such as a Chinese basket raffle, mystery game, 50/50 and several others. There was live entertainment, fabulous food and refreshments.

The Rotary Club of Burton/Middlefield projects to distribute more than $60,000 of revenue created from the Maple Splash Raffle to the following Geauga County service projects and organizations: Red Tulip, DDC Clinic, UH Geauga Cancer Center, Next Step, Claridon Helps, Geauga Faith Rescue Mission, Burton Congregational Church Food Bank, Geauga Dept. on Aging, Leadership Geauga Student Sponsorship, Berkshire Local School District, Cardinal Local School District, Geauga Historical Society, Youth Scholarships, Valor Retreat, Geauga County Lost Team and Geauga Veteran’s Food Pantry.
