Can You Catch the Week’s Biggest Fish?
"What a time to beat cabin fever and get outside to one of our parks." – John Oros
Geauga Park District is introducing a new youth fishing contest for county residents, ages 17 and under.
Beginning April 1, GPD will accept weekly entries through the following Tuesday evening. The contest will take place all spring long, concluding with the final week beginning Wednesday, June 17. Those 16 years of age or older can obtain a license online through Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
The winner each week will receive a fishing rod and reel.
To enter the contest, email a picture of the young angler holding his or her fish to info@geaugaparkdistrict.org, complete with name, age, hometown, date and the pond or lake location within the Geauga Park District. Write the words “Biggest Fish of the Week Contest” in the email subject line. Residents can enter the contest weekly and any fish species is eligible.
GPD Executive Director John Oros and Park Biologist Paul Pira will look at the length, weight and quality of the fish, so be sure to take as much pride in your photo as possible in order for them to determine what is the biggest fish of the week.
“Geauga Park District is fortunate to have some wonderful fisheries,” Oros said. “They range in size from small ponds to large lakes. Spring is the perfect time to catch a variety of species; the water is warming up and fish are ready to eat. What a time to beat cabin fever and get outside to one of our parks. We wish our young contestants the best.”
Winning youth also may appear on the park district’s social media or publicity materials.
