Food Pantry Open

Sept. 30, 10 a.m. to noon

The Food Pantry at Chester Christian Center church will be open to the community. The pantry is open to anyone who is in need of food. You do not need to be a member of the church to come to the pantry.

Chester Christian Center is located at 11815 Chillicothe Road in Chesterland.

Cystic Fibrosis Auction

Oct. 1

Brandi’s Rainbow is hosting the 13th annual Cystic Fibrosis Auction at Cardinal Middle School, 16175 Almeda Drive in Middlefield

Doors open at 3 p.m. with the auction starting at 5 p.m. Auction features more than 300 items.

Admission is $10. Youth 12 and under are free. Refreshments and 50/50 raffle.

Fall Fest

Oct. 1, 7-9 p.m.

Fall Fest will be held on Chardon Square. The evening will include s’mores, sponsored by the Chardon Area Rotary; scarecrow making, sponsored by the Chardon Area Kiwanis; a balloon artist, sponsored by the Chardon Square Association; and DJ music, sponsored by the City of Chardon. In addition, there will be free hot dogs, hot chocolate and pastries, sponsored by Sheetz.

Apple Butter Festival

Oct. 8 – 9, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Apple Butter Festival returns to Century Village in Burton for the 68th year.

Cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children ages 6–12 and free for children under 6. Admission is free with membership. Family membership passes are $55 and are good that day and valid for one year.

Family Pride Comedy Night

Oct. 7, 7:30 p.m.

Stand Up for Family Pride Comedy Night takes place at St. Mary’s Banquet Hall, 401 North St., Chardon. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

A fundraiser for Family Pride, a local nonprofit that provides counseling and support services for children, adolescents and families throughout northeast Ohio, the event features two comedians, hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, door prizes and Chinese auction.

Free Fresh Produce

Newbury United Community Church, 14961 Auburn Road, will be hosting a fresh produce giveaway.

Cleveland FoodBank provides the service to low income Geauga County residents. Please bring ID and bags.

Distributions will continue the second Saturday of the month through November.

Craft and Vendor Fair

Oct. 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Burton Health Care Center is holding a craft and vendor fair at 14095 E. Center St. in Burton. Shop for specialty chocolates, jewelry, perfectly posh, ceramics, handmade crafts and more.

Burton CC Fall Bazaar

Burton Congregational Church will hold its annual Fall Bazaar of craft, bake sale and rummage sale items. Lunch will be served all day.

Genealogical Society Meets

The Geauga County Genealogical Society will meet at Chardon Public Library, 110 E. Park St. Cheryl McClellan, Geauga County Public Library staff genealogist, will present “Penmanship the Old Way.”

Flying Club Hosts Swap Meet

Geauga Radio Controlaires is hosting the fifth annual Jim Gardner Memorial RC Model Swap Meet at the Mentor Beach Park Pavilion, 7779 Lakeshore Blvd. in Mentor-on-the-Lake.

Eighty exhibitor tables of radio controlled planes, helicopters, quadcopters, cars, boats, radios, tools and accessories will be displayed for sale, barter and trade by regional modelers.

Admission is $5. Youth 11 and under are free. Parking is free. Hot food will be available.

F.O.E. Ladies Auxiliary Dinners

The Fraternal Order of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary 2261, 317 Water St. in Chardon, hosts Friday Fish Fry dinners every Friday, Oct. 14 through April 14, except during holiday weeks, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Cost ranges from $7 to $10. Enjoy Lake Erie perch, orange roughy, shrimp or chicken tenders.

The FOE also serves spaghetti dinners every Tuesday, Oct. 12 through April 12, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

CVHS Road Trip

Animal Behavior Seminars

Oct. 22 – 23

Cold Nose Companions Dog Training is bringing Ken McCort, owner and operator of Four Paws animal behavior services in Doylestown, Ohio, to speak on two topics of great interest to pet guardians and professionals alike at its facility located at 12531 GAR Highway in Chardon.

“Arousal in Dogs – From Brain to Train” is Ken’s topic on Oct. 22. He will discuss why some dogs go “over-the-top” and act out in ways that are frustrating to guardians and/or dangerous to the dog or others.

Then, on Oct. 23, he will present “Multiple Pet Households – How to Make Them Work.” The seminar will cover introducing new pets, strategies to set everyone up for success, inter-species interactions, early identification and intervention of problems and what to do when relationships are not working out.

The seminars will be held each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $175 per day or $300 for both days. Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) are available for professionals.
