Free Community Dinner

Mayfield United Methodist Church is hosting a free dinner featuring grilled sausage, pepper and onion hoagies at the church located at 7747 Mayfield Road in Chester Township. Carry-out is available upon request.

Pet Blessing & Care Fair

Oct. 1, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Celebration Lutheran Church will host a pet blessing for companion animals and service animals at the parking lot of the church located at 10621 Auburn Road, Chardon. Attendees will receive a goodie bag.

Visit with representatives from area rescue organizations including Muttley Crue and the Sanctuary for Senior Dogs. Learn about the new program to help temporarily homeless families retain their pets sponsored by Project Hope for the Homeless and the Lake Humane Society.

Bake Sale and Basket Raffle

Oct. 1, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Huntsburg Congregational Church will hold a bake sale and gift basket raffle during the Pumpkin Festival on the church grounds at 12435 Madison Road, Huntsburg.

FGP Explorers Series

Oct. 1, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Join naturalist Dottie Drockton for an off-trail hike in Geauga Park District’s newly acquired Gallo property. Meet at the Affelder House, 15139 Chillicothe Road, Russell Township.

Chesterland Village Open House

Oct. 2, 2:30 p.m.

Former Geauga County Library staff genealogist Cheryl McClellan will present a program about the Quirk Cemetery during an open house held in the olde town hall at Chesterland Historical Village in Chester Township. Come learn the history of the little-known cemetery and mausoleum from the 1800s. All are welcome.

Geauga Skywatchers

GEL Breakfast

Oct. 7, 8-9:30 a.m.

Jason Glowczewski, chief operating officer, University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, will be the guest speaker at the next Geauga Economic Leadership (G.E.L.) breakfast taking place at Kent State University – Geauga, 14111 Claridon Troy Road, Burton. He will discussthe current state of healthcare, including issues such as the rising costs and lack of staff, especially nurses. In addition, Kent State will talk about the new nursing lab in partnership with UH.

Breakfast and networking begin at 8 a.m. Free and open to the public.

American Legion Pig Roast

Oct. 8, 4-7 p.m.

Newbury American Legion Post 663 and auxiliary unit 663 are hosting their annual pig roast dinner and homemade pie auction at the post located at 11008 Kinsman Road in Newbury Township. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. To go orders are available.

Geauga Jeep Invasion

Oct. 9

Rotary Club of Burton-Middlefield along with Junction Auto Family and others are sponsoring the Geauga Jeep Invasion and Jeep Show for the Geauga County D.A.R.E. program. The jeep drive through scenic Geauga County begins, rain or shine, at Mayfield Road Drive-In, 12100 state Route 322, Chardon.

Registration is at 8 a.m. The jeep show and drive start at 10 a.m., with the drive ending back at the drive-in at 11 a.m. Sponsor recognition is at 11:30 a.m. Free door prizes will be awarded.

Donation is $25 per jeep for the show and $50 for the invasion tour.

Chinese Auction

Oct. 13, 11 a.m.

A Chinese auction sponsored by Daughters of Mary will be held at St. Mary Hall, Orwell. The auction begins at 7 p.m. Winner need not be present. The event features more than 300 prizes, including door prizes, 50-50 raffle, free snacks and concession stand. Entry ticket, which includes a strip of 10 tickets, is $5. Donations are welcome. Creations Boutique Sale

The Children’s Guild of Cleveland is hosting its annual Creations unique boutique featuring jewelry, fiber arts, seasonal decor, children’s items, vintage treasures and more at The Family Life Center, 16349 Chillicothe Road in Bainbridge Township.

Admission is $5. All proceeds benefit selected Cleveland area children.

Church Turkey Dinner

Huntsburg Congregational Church will host its annual turkey drive-thru dinner, preorder only at 12435 Madison Road, Huntsburg Township.

Cost is $12 for an adult portion.
