State of the Schools

Superintendents of Geauga County public schools will share how their schools are setting students up for success and how they have adapted to meet the unique needs of their students at the next Geauga Economic Leadership (G.E.L.) breakfast at Kent State University – Geauga, 14111 Claridon Troy Road, Burton.

Breakfast and networking begin at 8 a.m. Free and open to the public.

Christmas Gathering Boutique

Nov. 4, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Nov. 5, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Chesterland Historical Village will hold its annual Christmas Gathering Boutique and Tea in the 1842 home of Silas and Molly Tanner. Admission is free.

An open house will also be held Nov. 6 from 2-4 p.m. All of the buildings will be open for tours.

The village is located at 7800 Mayfield Road at intersection of Caves and Mayfield roads in Chester Township.

The Boutique Bounce

Join the Boutique Bounce to be eligible to win one of three grand prizes by stopping at St. Anselm Church, 13013 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township; Old South Church, 9802 Chillicothe Road in Kirtland; and St. Mark Lutheran Church, 11900 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township. Pick up a card at the first stop on Nov. 5 and have it stamped and then turn in the card at last stop on Nov. 12. The drawing will take place Nov. 13, when the winners will be notified.

The boutique at St. Anselm Church runs Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $1.

St. Mark Church will host a preview party for adults only Nov. 11 from 7-9 p.m. Admission is $5. The sale continues Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with free admission.

Old South Church will also host a boutique on Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with free admission.

Good Deeds Program

Nov. 5, 10 a.m.

Geauga County Probate Court will present the Good Deeds Program in the small gym of the Metzenbaum Center, 8200 Cedar Road, Chester Township.

The free informational program is designed to inform individuals about how they title their assets now will determine whether their family will need to go through probate court upon their death. Learn less expensive alternatives in titling assets to avoid the probate process.

An asset checklist will be provided. Volunteer attorneys will be available to discuss individual estate needs.

FGP Explorers Series

Nov. 5, 10:30 a.m.

Join Foundation for Geauga Parks for a 1.1 mile walk with commentary and observations by professional naturalist through Whitlam Woods, 12500 Pearl Road, Hambden Township.

Community Scavenger Hunt

Nov. 5, 4-6 p.m.

Join Claridon Community Helps for a community scavenger hunt. Cost is $25 per person for teams up to four people per team. Come up with a team name and wear sports team apparel.

The scavenger hunt is designed so that participants can start anywhere. There will be a prize for the team that finds the most items.

A tailgate party will follow from 6-9 p.m. at the Chardon VFW Post 6519, 752 Water St.

Join Geauga Skywatchers Club for an astronomy presentation by a member of The Chagrin Valley Astronomical Society at the Chardon Public Library.

Annual Turkey Dinner

Nov. 8, 4:30-7 p.m.

The Women’s Fellowship of Parkman Congregational Church are preparing and serving their annual Election Day turkey dinner with all the trimmings at the church located at 18265 Madison Road in Parkman.

The drive-through, carryout only dinners are $15 per person.

Genealogical Society Meets

Nov. 8, 7 p.m.

Shelley Bishop will present “The Case of the Missing Will” via Zoom at the next meeting of the Geauga County Genealogical Society.

Kristallnacht Candlelight Vigil

Nov. 9, 6 p.m.

Geauga County’s second annual candlelight vigil will be held on Chardon Square to commemorate the 84th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass. Organized by Mary Briggs and Susan Effron, candles will be provided.

Friends of WomenSafe Dinner

Nov. 10, 6-8 p.m.

Friends of WomenSafe hosts its semi-annual dinner and general meeting at Heritage House, 11 East Park St., Chardon. Meet with active members of the organization, hear about plans for the coming year and find ways to volunteer. All are welcome.

In addition, FOW is sponsoring a raffle for four tickets to the Cleveland Browns-New Orleans Saints football game on Dec. 24. Seats, valued at $200, are in section 539. Raffle tickets cost $10 each or three for $20. Purchase raffle tickets online. The winners, who need not be present, will be picked at the FOW theater party on Nov. 27.

Post 459 Soup and Chili

Nov. 11, 4:30-7 p.m.

The Burton American Legion Atwood-Mauck Post 459 on Goodwin Street in Burton is serving soup and chili on Veterans Day. The event is free to all veterans.

Sharp Family Pasta Benefit

Nov. 12, 4-7 p.m.

A pasta dinner will be held in memory of Katie Heiden and Chloe Sharp at Berkshire Local Schools, 14155 Claridon Troy Road in Burton. The benefit includes 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction and side boards.

Doors open at 2 p.m.; dinner will be served from 4-7 p.m. Drawings will start at 6:30 p.m.

Dinner ticket is $15 for adults and $10 for 12 and younger. Dinner ticket is not needed to enter drawings and raffles.

Chardon VFW Veterans Day Dinner

Nov. 12, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Chardon VFW Post 6519 will host its annual free Veterans Day dinner for veterans and their families in the dining room of the canteen. Meal choice is Salisbury steak or butterflied shrimp dinner.

Taste in Bainbridge

Nov. 12, 5:30-11 p.m.

Bainbridge Civic Club will host its 35th annual Taste in Bainbridge at the Chagrin Valley Athletic Club. The event features around 20 restaurants and the club’s Ox Roast carving station along with multiple raffles and auctions.

Social hour with cocktails and appetizers is from 5:30-6:30 p.m. followed by dinner from 6:30-8 p.m. Auction winners will be announced from 8-8:30 p.m. The casino and dancing begin at 8:30 p.m.

The number of tickets is being reduced to eliminate the congestion at the continuously sold out event. Tickets are $45 and are on sale at www.TheCivicClub.org.

Proceeds provide funding for Bainbridge Civic Club’s scholarships and philanthropic donations and the Bainbridge Area Food for Friends food pantry.

Thanksgiving Dessert Sale

Huntsburg Congregational Church is holding a Thanksgiving dessert sale and is accepting orders for 9-inch pumpkin or apple pies and pumpkin rolls. Cost is $10 each. Place orders by calling or texting Debbie at 234-600-9582 by Nov. 16 for pickup on Nov. 22 from 3-6 p.m.

Holiday Boutique and Brunch

Nov. 13, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Maple Leaf Community Residences will host a holiday boutique and brunch at the Club of Hillbrook Club in Chagrin Falls. Brunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. and guests will enjoy a special appearance by the Cleveland Ballet.

Tickets are $60 for adults and $25 for children 10 and under. Ticket sales close Nov. 4.

Ugly Sweater Run

Nov. 26, 9 a.m.

Sign up for Burton Chamber of Commerce’s Country Hearth Christmas 5K Ugly Sweater Run and 1 mile Penguin Waddle. The run begins and ends at Burton Fire Station, 13828 Spring St.

Early registration by Nov. 11 is $25 per person for the run, or $30 day of race. The waddle is $15 per person. Pets and children are welcome in the waddle. Prizes awarded for age bracket winners, best sweater or costume and best pet costume. All preregistered participants receive a T-shirt.
