Civil War Encampment
May 27 and 28, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Geauga County Historical Society presents a Civil War Encampment on the grounds of Century Village Museum in Burton. The event features authentic reenactors, sutlers and battles.

Memorial Day Bake Sale

Claridon Congregational Church is holding a bake sale. Attend the Memorial Day observance at Claridon Center Cemetery at 10 a.m., then take some baked goods home for a Memorial Day picnic. All proceeds will benefit the fund to repair damage to the sanctuary of the church.
Holiday Polka Party

Young of Heart

Geauga Young of Heart will meet at St. Anselm Church in Chester Township. Bring a brown bag lunch. Snacks and beverage are provided. Guest speaker Janet Creighton will take the group behind the scenes at the White House.
A trip is planned to Niagara Falls, N.Y., on Aug. 15 and 16 to Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino to see Russian comedian Yakov Smirnoff.

Pancakes and Airplanes
June 3, 8 a.m. to noon
Chapter 5 of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) will host its 13th annual youth event including a pancake breakfast and Young Eagles Airplane rides at Classic Jet Center at Lake County Executive Airport 1969 Lost Nation Road, Willoughby.
Pilots from the nonprofit organization will donate their time, fuel and aircraft to fly kids ages 8-17 at no cost; parental permission is required. Register at youngeaglesday.org.
There will also be hands-on youth stations with a variety of activities. Breakfast is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 3-12 and free for children under 3. Cash only, please. All proceeds benefit EAA Chapter 5 programs.

Author and historian Dan Rager will weave stories of the Maple Leaf Route and The Interurban Railway from a bygone era. Friends of WomenSafe will hold its eighth annual Purses and Pastries party at the Munson Township Hall, 12210 Auburn Road. Guests will enjoy brunch, a designer purse raffle, Bingo, fun purse exchange and more.
Bring a new or gently used purse with a wrapped $5 gift inside to participate in the purse exchange.
Cost is $30 for adults. Purchase a super ticket for $50 to receive three Bingo cards and 15 raffle tickets with admission.
