Food Pantry Open

The food pantry at the Chester Christian Center church is open to anyone community in need of food. One does not need to be a member of the church to attend.

The church is located at 11815 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township.

Free Community Dinner

Sept. 29, 5-6:30 p.m.

Mayfield United Methodist Church is hosting a free community dinner at the church located at 7747 Mayfield Road in Chester Township. Carryout is available.

Community Sunday Meal

Oct. 1, 11:30 a.m.

St Luke Episcopal Church resumes its monthly community Sunday meal at the church located at 11519 Wilson Mills Road in Chardon. All are welcome.

A Pouch of Purses

Oct. 1, 2-4 p.m.

Bunni Union will present “A Pouch of Purses” during an open house held in the Olde Town Hall at Chesterland Historical Village. The program begins at 2:30 p.m. She will share her vast collection of over 250 beaded and metal purses.

All are welcome. The historical village is located at the corner of Caves and Mayfield roads in in Chester Township.

Geauga Skywatchers Club

Join Geauga Economic Leadership (G.E.L.) breakfast for “Growth and Development of University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center” taking place at Kent State University – Geauga, 14111 Claridon Troy Road, Burton. Hear from and engage with the hospital’s chief medical officer, Dr. Marlea Miano, and development officer, Bill Rice.

Young of Heart

Oct. 6, 11:30 a.m.

Geauga Young of Heart will meet at St. Anselm Church in Chester Township. Bring a brown bag lunch. Snacks and beverage are provided.

Geauga Park District Naturalist Denise Wolfe will talk about coyotes in the county.

Re-Shined Christmas

Chardon United Methodist Church, 515 North St., is hosting Re-Shined Christmas, a gently used Christmas decor and more sale to benefit the Geauga County Night to Shined Prom for special needs. The preview sale and silent auction on Oct. 6 is from 6-9 p.m. The main sale on Oct. 7 from 8 a.m. to noon includes a visit from Santa.

RC Modeling Swap Meet

Oct. 7, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Geauga Radio Controlaires RC Model Flying Club is hosting the 12th annual Radio-Controlled Modeling Swap Meet at 4200 state Route 306, Willoughby.

The event features 77 exhibitor tables of items for sale, barter and trade by regional modelers. A Chinese auction of new planes and equipment will be held at 12:30 p.m. Proceeds support the RC flying field.

Pumpkin Festival

Oct. 7 and 8

Huntsburg Township hosts its 53rd annual Pumpkin Festival at the intersection of state routes 322 and 528. There is no entrance fee and all contests, entertainment, attractions and activities are free.

There is also free parking and a free shuttle service from the parking areas to the festival grounds. The pancake breakfast is open each day from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Prime Time for K9s

Oct. 14, 12-8 p.m.

Partner with the Chardon VFW Post 6519 to enjoy an afternoon of fundraising to benefit the Geauga County Sherriff’s Office K-9 Unit at the post located at 752 Water St. in Chardon. The event is open to the public from noon to 5 p.m.

A prime rib dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. Dinner tickets are $100 and include a reverse raffle. Raffle begins at 7:15 p.m. The event also features a Chinese auction, 50/50 and silent auction. All proceeds will go directly to the K-9 Unit.

CV Herb Society Meets

The Chagrin Valley Herb Society will meet at the Bainbridge Library, 17222 Snyder Road. After refreshments and mingling, a business meeting will follow. The program is “Attracting Birds in the Winter, Backyard Feeding Stations.”
