Food Pantry Open

Jan. 26, 10 a.m. to noon

The food pantry at the Chester Christian Center church is open to anyone in the community in need of food. One does not need to be a member of the church to attend.

The church is located at 11815 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township.

Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament

Jan. 27, 3 p.m.

Bainbridge Civic Club will host a Texas Hold “em Tournament at Centerville Mills Park, 8558 Crackel Road in Bainbridge Township. Proceeds benefit the Kenston Foundation. Check-in starts at 3 p.m., with the tournament beginning at 4 p.m.

Chardon VFW Pancake Breakfasts

Sundays, 8 a.m. to noon

Chardon VFW Post 6519 will be serving its annual pancake breakfasts every Sunday, Feb. 4 through March 24, at the post located at 752 Water St. in Chardon. Breakfast features three flavors of pancakes, French toast, eggs made to order, bacon, sausage, ham and home fries. Call 440-285-3699 for takeout orders.

VFW Lasagna Dinner

Feb. 10, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Chardon VFW Post 6519 will host a lasagna dinner and guest bartender night at the post located at 752 Water St. Only 70 tickets are available; call 440-285-3699 for reservations. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Geauga County Veterans Food Pantry.

LCRTA Lunch Meeting

Feb. 13, 11 a.m.

The Lake County Retired Teachers Association will meet at the Kirtland Party Center, 9270 Chillicothe Road, Kirtland. Social time will be followed by the program at 11:30 a.m. and a chicken roulade lunch.

Sgt. Scott Daubenmire, from the Mentor-on-the-Lake Police Department, will present a program about online scams and fraud protection.

Speed Networking

Feb. 15, 5-7 p.m.

Join Leadership Geauga for its second annual speed-networking event at the Kent State University Geauga, 14111 Claridon-Troy Road in Burton. Meet like-minded individuals, share information about one’s business and grow one’s professional network for the new year. Registration begins at 5 p.m., with the event starting at 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. Bring business cards.

Woodland Wednesdays

Feb. 21, 6 p.m.

The Woodland Wednesdays series continues with, “Oh Deer, is that Oak Wilt” at VFW Post 1055, 6000 New Milford Road, Ravenna. The program will provide an update on oak wilt, a destructive and deadly fungal disease that is a serious threat to northeast Ohio oaks. There will also be a review of current trends in the timber market, information about federal financial assistance programs, along with a Q & A session on Current Agriculture Use Value and Ohio Forest Tax Law property tax reduction programs. Featured presenters include John Kehn, ODNR Division of Forestry,Ryan Clester, Area 11 State Forester, and Matt Kelly, Portage County Auditor.

Spring Tree Sale

April 19 and 20

Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is holding its spring tree sale. The sale offers a streamlined selection of both bareroot seedlings and 1-3 gallon container trees and shrubs. Rain barrels are also available.
