Equine Park Fun
Oct. 13
Register to bring your own horse for a Geauga Park District naturalist-led ride on the Buckeye and Maple Bridle Trails at Headquarters Park.
Riders on the first outing from 3-5 p.m. will take in the autumn color, views of the reservoir and nature lore. Then, on the second ride from 6:30- 8:30 p.m., the sights and sounds of autumn will be on display differently as the sun sets and the full moon rises over East Branch Reservoir.
Riders must trailer their own horses to the park; helmets are encouraged.
Park District Van Trips
Geauga Park District drives guests to some awesome regional spots outside of Geauga County’s parks. Registration is required.
Earthquake Van Trip
Oct. 13, 1-5 p.m.
Big Creek Park, Meyer Center
Take a tour of earthquake-related sites in Northeast Ohio. Be prepared to take a short walk at each stop, and bring along a snack for the road.
Cross-County Fall Colors Van Trip
Oct. 19, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The West Woods
Join a naturalist on this van trip to visit areas around the county with spectacular views of fall colors. We’ll begin at The West Woods and head northeast to Punderson State Park, Burton and Chardon. Bring a packed lunch. We’ll also stop at the Burton Log Cabin for maple treats.
Net-Zero Solar Home Van Trip
Nov. 16, 9-11:30 a.m.
The West Woods
Tour the features and construction of the first net-zero, environmentally friendly, solar-powered home in Geauga County designed and built by local architect Hank Penttila and Burton resident Jacqueline Samuel.
Elderberries: Fall Wagon Ride
Oct. 17, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Come along on a naturalist-led wagon ride to enjoy natural wonders unique to autumn at Swine Creek Reservation, Woods Edge Shelter. As part of this special seasonal event, the Geauga County Department on Aging and University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center will also host a picnic lunch at 11:30 a.m. Registration is required.
Naturalists also lead Geauga Walkers hikes of active seniors year-round, usually a couple Tuesdays a month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Upcoming hikes this season are Oct. 29 at Beartown Lakes Reservation and Nov. 12 at Walter C.
