Poetry in Nature

Feb. 9, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Poetry, pictures and music will be a unique way of learning about the natural history of insects at The West Woods Nature Center in Russell Township.

The singularly different program, designed for an audience school aged and up, will feature photos and music to highlight several specific species, followed by a unique poem reading by naturalists Linda Gilbert and Tami Gingrich. The poems are first-person accounts about insect life, as told by the insects themselves.

Count The Birds

Become an official citizen scientist by participating in the Great Backyard Bird Count, a worldwide count coordinated by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. For more information, visit http://gbbc.birdcount.org.

Geauga Park District’s counting will be conducted at Swine Creek Reservation’s lodge on Feb. 14 from 8-10 a.m., and at The West Woods Nature Center on Feb. 14-16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition to its wall of giant windows always bustling with hungry birds and other wildlife, The West Woods Nature Center’s hands-on exhibitry, Discovery Room, art displays, live critters and Tree Tops Nature Store make it a great place to visit any cold winter day 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
