Salamander Saunter

March 21, 9-10:30 a.m.

Big Creek Park

Naturalist Tami Gingrich’s program will begin indoors the Meyer Center with a short presentation on vernal pools and their importance to a variety of amphibians that depend on them to complete their life cycles. Then it’s outside for a short Salamander Saunter to nearby pools in search of frog and salamander egg masses. Participants will get the chance to assist in checking pre-set traps in an effort to sample the amphibians beneath the surface.

Come prepared to touch and hold giant mole salamanders and other amphibians. Bring a camera. Salamanders on site will also be examined up close and checked for health before being released.
