Winter Solstice Celebration
Dec. 21, 7-10 p.m.
Celebrate the longest night of the year while exploring the roots of modern holiday celebrations indoors and out at the West Woods in Russell Township. Drop in anytime to enjoy treats, hot beverages, a free solstice-themed craft and festive music by the Pilgrim Brass Choir.
Then, outdoors, stroll the self-guided Solstice Traditions Trail, a magical, candlelit route through the forest complete with a bonfire, and the hit the stage area to watch costumed interpreters as they highlight solstice traditions of past civilizations. Interactive skits will be performed every 10 minutes. No registration is required.
The West Woods is located at 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township; overflow parking will be available from 6:30-10:30 p.m. via a free shuttle bus at ASM International, located just east on state Route 87. No dogs, please.
Aim For Winter Fun
Geauga Park District keeps its popular archery programs going all winter long by moving indoors to The Rookery’s Great Blue Heron Lodge, 10110 Cedar Road in Chester Township.
Introduction to Archery sessions are available on Dec. 28, for families with children ages 9 and older from 1-2:30 p.m.; and on Dec. 29, for kids ages 9-16 from 12:30-2 p.m. and for adults only from 2:30-4 p.m. Attendance at an introduction is required to attend the variety of other archery programs.
All participants must be at least 50-inches tall, with adults accompanying children at all times, and wear closed-toe shoes.
Also, Archery Games for Adults will be offered on Dec. 28, from 3-4:30 p.m.
