Community Art Show
The park district will present the community art show “On the Wing…Nature That Takes Flight” from March 28 through July 26 at The West Woods Nature Center in Russell Township.
Featuring works by more than 100 local artists of all ages, the exhibit celebrates birds, butterflies, bats, dragonflies and other creatures of flight through a variety of media, including painting, drawing and photography. A youth category highlights artists age 12 and younger.
The show will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., except Memorial Day and Independence Day, and is free to attend.
A Meet the Artists reception will be held March 28 from 1-3 p.m. at the nature center.
Ohio Goes to the Movies
The park district has been selected as an official host venue for “Ohio Goes to the Movies,” part of the America 250-Ohio celebration. Two family-friendly films with Ohio connections will be shown this summer at Observatory Park as part of the park district’s Nights Out in the Park series.
Free screenings include “Finding Nemo” on June 13 and “Superman” on July 11. Pre-show activities begin at 6 p.m., with the movie at 7 p.m. on a large outdoor LED screen. Programs move indoors in case of inclement weather.
The statewide initiative highlights Ohio’s role in cinema, with communities in all 88 counties participating.
The park district will also host several America 250-Ohio themed programs this spring and summer, including a historical presentation, a Touch-a-Truck event and the “On the Wing…Nature That Takes Flight” community art show at The West Woods Nature Center.
