Hambden Congregational Church

Welcomes Rolling Thunder on May 17 at the 10 a.m. service. Bikes will meet at Chardon Square at 9:30 a.m., rain or shine.

Come and help us salute our veterans and invite family and friends.

Jack Martin will be playing the bagpipes and a blessing of the bikes will follow the service. There will also be a picnic to follow at Hambden Township Park.

The Chardon VFW will be on hand to do the grilling. Hot dogs and hamburgers are provided. Bring a dish to share.

The church is on state Route 6 across from Hambden Elementary School.

Memorial Day Observance

Hambden Township will begin its annual Memorial Day observance May 25 with a parade at 9 a.m. The parade will form around 8:45 a.m. behind the plaza at the intersection of routes 6 and 166.

The Great Geauga County Fair Band, the Geauga Highlanders and the Chardon High School Marching Band will all be participating in this year’s parade.

The parade marshal is Darlene Welch. As well as being our township zoning inspector, Darlene was a volunteer for our very first community picnic – the Bondstown Bash – held 30 years ago this summer and she has been a volunteer nearly every year since.

All local baseball teams, Scouts and 4-H clubs are invited to join in the parade.

The parade will conclude at Hambden Congregational Church, where a short service of remembrance will be held. Former township trustee Bill Gertz will then read the names of the Hambden veterans at the township park. The morning will conclude with a pancake breakfast at the fire station.

Picnic Planning Meeting

The next meeting to help plan the 30th anniversary of Hambden Com-munity Picnic, also known as the Bondstown Bash, will be held at the township hall on May 14 at 7 p.m.

We hope everyone will join us and help make this picnic the very best ever.
