Some folks have tapped trees and already made some maple syrup. At the Sunny Hope Auction on Feb. 7, they sold some fresh maple syrup. One gallon brought over $100. They had a big crowd. Someone said around 2,400 people were there. They grossed about $28,000. A big thank-you to all who helped in any way.

Born to Adam and Lori Miller, a son, Adam Jr., on Jan. 27. This is their first. Grandparents are Richard and Sue Miller and Adam and Marie Miller. Great-grandparents are Owen and Cindy Miller, Nelson and Barbara Miller, Andy O. Miller and I.

Samuel Schmucker, formerly of Geauga County and now living in Mio, Mich., had an accident last Saturday evening, falling and landing on some wood. He soon felt very dizzy and was taken to the hospital where they found he has several broken ribs and was bleeding internally. He was then flown from Grayling Hospital to Travers City. Sam is a brother to Mrs. Marie Fisher of Wilcox Road.

Our plans have changed to go to visit my sister Liz Yoder in Mio, Mich. Son Ray, sister Edna Byler and her daughter Martha, Ellen Hershberger and Noah and Barbara Yutzy had plans to leave the morning of Feb. 12, but now son Ray is sick with the flu, so we will plan on going when he feels better.

On Feb. 6, sister Emma and Andy Weaver, of Jasper, N.Y., were at sister Fannie Yoder’s, stopping in after spending several days in Mio. Ellen Hershberger, Noah and Barb Yutzy and I were also there. Sisters Edna and Elmina didn’t make it down on account of it being so icy. Andys then left fort home on Feb. 7.

My company the evening of Feb. 9 was son Perry and Katie Ann, Richard and Sue and children, Dan and Sylvia and Aden and Rosanna and children. They brought coffee, tea and snacks. It was an enjoyable evening.

On Jan. 5, son Ray and Judy, daughter Sylvia, Mrs. Bob Sylvia Hershberger, Mrs. Al Saloma Yoder and I went to the Home and Flower Show. There were many different displays with all kinds of things for home improvements, plus flower gardens and much, much more. It was an interesting day.

Happy birthday to son Mark, born Feb. 11, 1978.

From Out of the Past

Burton, Ohio: Jan. 4, 1892

Nice weather and about 6 inches of snow, the first of the season to amount to anything, but we had splendid weather to do all kind of work.

D.D. Miller and Isaac Hershberger have gone to Holmes and Tuscarawas counties to spend the holidays with friends. (This Isaac was my grandfather.)

Joseph Kauffman, of Tuscarawas County, was here the past week and has rented a farm and will move here in the spring, with the intention of buying a farm in a year or so.

Jacob D. Byler has purchased a farm of 71 acres at $40 per acre several weeks ago.
