It was a beautiful morning on June 1. It was a nice day to dry laundry and work outside. I need to get my hanging baskets planted, but first I need to go get some more plants. Hopefully, there will still be some available.

Our hearts are sad since the passing of sister Edna Byler. She had been having some health issues for some time. Her husband Bill passed away on May 4, with the funeral on May 7. I was not able to attend the funeral due to going to Mio, Mich., for my grandson’s wedding, which was the day of the funeral. I then stayed in Michigan for another grandson’s wedding before coming home on May 14.

Grandson Matthew Byler was married to Rosie Hershberger on May 7 and his brother Marcus was married to Katie Ann Bontrager, daughter of David and Bertha, on May 14. The following week, we attended the wedding of grandson Kenny, son of Wayne and Judy Miller, and Barbie, daughter of Willie and Liz Miller, in Mumfordville, Ky. It was a smaller wedding on account of the virus.

On May 28, sisters Clara Kauffman and Sylvia Miller came down from Mio, Mich., and we spent time with sister Edna and family. We were able to be at her bedside along with her children when she peacefully passed away. Her funeral was three weeks and three days after her husband Bill’s. Our sympathy goes to the family. It was also seven weeks after brother Melvin’s funeral, which was in Jasper, N.Y.

The wedding of another grandson, Philip Miller Jr., is on June 4. His bride-to-be is Esther, daughter of Freeman and Barbara Byler, of Wiswell Road. They will be living next door to Philip’s parents in a house they bought on Rockwood Road. So, yes, wedding season has started with not as big of weddings due to the virus.

Niece Ellen Hershberger is slowly feeling somewhat better. She is able to eat a little better, having more of an appetite. She is staying with her sister, Barb and Noah Yutzy. They are glad for mail and phone calls, but not visitors at this time.

The fight is on between the bluebirds and the sparrows, fighting for the mealworms. And the robins and chickadees also eat the grape jelly I put out for the orioles. It is so much fun to watch the birds.

Our sympathy also goes to the Dan C. Byler family in the passing of their father and grandfather who passed away last week.
