Kenston Intermediate School fifth-grader Adrianna Giancola has been named the winner of this year’s #1 Dog Essay contest for Geauga County.
Geauga County Auditor Chuck Walder, whose office holds the #1 Dog in Geauga County contest annually for fourth- and fifth-graders in the county, presented Adrianna and her dog Buddy with the #1 Dog tag and certificate at a Dec. 8 ceremony at KIS.
Adrianna also received several gifts and a donation was made to her teacher to put towards a class project.
The #1 Dog Essay contest is part of a countywide contest to kick off the dog registration season. The essays are read by a panel of judges and the winner receives dog tag #1 for their dog and the title #1 Dog in Geauga County.
Walder said his office received numerous essays and the judging was not easy, but Adrianna’s essay conveys the true loyalty and love for her dog.
“Congratulations Adrianna and Buddy, and thank you to all the Geauga County students that entered our contest and shared their dogs’ stories,” added Walder.
In her essay, Adrianna said Buddy is a big dog, but his heart is even bigger.
“And when I am kneeling down he will lay on top of me and start sleeping on my lap. It is so cute, but he is pretty big right now so it squishes me a little,” she wrote. “And when we watch TV, I go on the ground and he’ll just come right to me. And when he wakes up, his ears flop over and it’s adorable. And whenever the delivery man comes he looks so muscular and cool because he was trying to protect us.”
Another reason Adrianna gave why Buddy is #1 is that when her dad leaves for two minutes, “my dog acts like it’s two hours and when he comes back Buddy’s so happy.”
She added, “Also you can tell his emotion in his tail and it’s so cute when we come in from school and he’s crazy.”
