Historic Tidbits

Let us not forget Sept. 11, 2001, when more than 3,850 innocent people were killed when Muslim terrorists hijacked airliners carrying passengers crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, in Shanksville, Pa., and the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. The remains of some of the victims have never been found and some remains that have been recovered have never been identified.

Francis Scott Key (1779-1843) composed the national anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner,” 200 years ago on Sept. 14, 1814. He entered the military service during the War of 1812 and wrote the anthem while detained aboard a British ship during the bombardment of Ft. McHenry near Baltimore.
