Historic Tidbit
On March 17, whether Irish or not, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, marking the supposed date of death of Saint Patrick, c373-c463. Born near Glasgow, he was moved by “visions to devote himself to Christianity.”
When he was consecrated in Auxerre, France, he changed his name from Sucat to Patrick. Miraculous powers were attributed to him, the most famous being that he drove all the snakes out of Ireland. The date is observed throughout the world with celebrations of food and drink.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all.
