Academic Team Excels
Newbury High School Academic Team won the LaBrae High School Viking Invitational on March 7, securing a bid for the second year in a row to the NAQT Small School National Championship Tournament. Mak Sanders led the academic team, scoring the fourth highest in the tournament and securing him a spot on the All-Tournament First Team. Other members of the tournament winning team heading to the national championship are Zac Grubbs, Sam Barnhart, Zac Plesmid, Jessica Perez, Kevin Piczer and Alex Everiss.
This year the tournament will be held April 24-26 in Atlanta, which has left very little time to raise the $5,500 to be able to go.
The Academic Team will be having a fundraiser at Cowboy Food and Drink in Chagrin Falls on March 25, where 15 percent of all food and non-alcoholic beverages will go to the Academic Team. Patrons must present a flier to the server for the purchase to count. Please email the Academic Team adviser Taylor Schildhouse at tschildhouse@newburyschools.org to receive a flier.
