Burton Christmas Bird Count Hike

Jan. 2, 8-10 a.m.

Claridon Woodlands

Hike with a naturalist and discover the park’s winter bird diversity. Results from the bird walk will be tallied for the annual Burton Christmas Bird Count. Tens of thousands of volunteers throughout the Americas brave snow, wind and rain to take part in the annual effort that runs Dec. 14 through Jan. 5. Audubon and other organizations use data collected in this long-running wildlife census to assess the health of bird populations and guide conservation action. Registration is required.

Burton Christmas Bird Count 

Jan. 2, 9, 10 and 11 a.m. and noon

The West Woods

Register for a timed session to come into the warm lobby and help staff count birds at the feeders for the Burton Christmas Bird Count.

Learn to Cross Country Ski 

Jan. 3, 1-3 p.m.

Orchard Hills Park, Lodge

Learn the basics of cross country skiing, including proper clothing, types of equipment and proper technique. Indoor presentation followed by outdoor instruction. Ski rental available in advance from Geiger’s, 50 Shopping Plaza, Chagrin Falls, 440-247-4900. A special rental rate for the program applies: $17 for pick-up on Friday and return on Monday during business hours. Registration is required.
