Ropes & Boats
Climb at Claridon Woodlands or float at Headwaters Park.
This year introduces the new ability to reserve time up on Claridon Woodlands’ high ropes course. Current hours are Fridays from 2-8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Also, kayaks can also be borrowed from Headwaters Park’s Boathouse first-come-first-served for up to two hours at a time. Current hours are Fridays from 1 p.m. until the last boats go out at 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. until the last boats go out at 4 p.m.
Both amenities are available free to Geauga County residents (ID required). Visit the park district website for schedule changes before coming out, as well as rules, regulations, out-of-county pricing and pandemic-related particulars. Masks are required on the ropes and recommended during boat borrowing.
Nights Out in the Parks
The park district’s Nights Out in the Parks returns on special Saturdays in July and August – two outdoor movie nights and three scenic amphitheater shows, all completely free for all.
Due to pandemic-related attendance limitations, registration will be required in advance for all movie nights and outdoor concerts. We will also practice social distancing and encourage face coverings at all 2020 Nights Out events.
Observatory Park will host both movies, shown on a giant inflatable screen under internationally recognized dark skies: “The Martian” on July 11 and “Up” on Aug. 8.
Live music performances will be divided between Big Creek Park’s Frances S. Hall Amphitheater and the great outdoor pavilion at Claridon Woodlands, all 7-8:30 p.m.: Long Time Gone on July 18 at Big Creek Park; Hiram Rapids Stumblers on Aug. 15 at Claridon Woodlands; and The PopTarts on Aug. 29 at Big Creek Park.
Movie and concert guests may bring blankets, lawn chairs and snacks to share with their group, as refreshments will not be served. However, free pre-packaged ice cream treats will be available at “Up” while supplies last.
West Woods Wednesdays
The monthly farm market returns to picnic shelters in Russell Township second Wednesday of each month, July to September, for a one-stop shop for all mid-week, farm-fresh needs. Face coverings are encouraged.
In addition to vendors providing all kinds of locally made/grown items, strolling musicians will provide ambient music plus an onsite concession trailer will serve snacks and drinks for purchase.
Geauga Park District is still accepting applications from interested farm market vendors. Vendor applications are available online.
