Earth Day Drive-Through
April 22
Celebrate Earth Day safely and locally through the park district’s free, outdoor Earth Day Drive-Through at The West Woods in Russell Township.
Participants need only register per vehicle, not per person, in advance. Time slots are each 15 minutes long and currently available from 12:15 through 1:45 p.m.
Giveaways will include free native prairie plants and wildflowers.
Also, park district staff will distribute native tree and shrub seedlings; representatives from the Native Plant Society of Northeast Ohio will have garden plants to give away; and giveaway bags will include informational literature and child-friendly materials enough for each vehicle to make one pinecone bird feeder.
Fish Stocking
Geauga Park District is stocking waterways at three county parks this spring:
- Beartown Lakes Reservation’s Middle Bear Lake(largemouth bass)
- Big Creek’s Tupelo Pond(largemouth bass and bluegill)
- Swine Creek Reservation’s Lodge Pond(largemouth bass)
A second round of stocking of rainbow trout at Beartown Lakes Reservation’s Lower Bear Lake in October and November:
Real-time stocking notifications are always posted on the park district’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Families are welcome to catch and take fish from waterways in 11 park district parks as long as they have a current Ohio fishing license in accordance with state regulations.
Live From Geauga Parks
Geauga Park District reminds residents of its diverse lineup of live virtual programming, which can be easily enjoyed home via a computer, tablet or phone by following a link that is sent upon registration.
Virtual visitors this spring will be treated to a variety of topics using the free software Zoom, including: Earthquakes in Ohio on April 9 or 23; Warbler Warm-Up on April 18; Blackbrook Audubon: The Wildlife of Bass Lake on April 20; Exoplanets & How to Find Them on May 7 or 21; Homeschool Days: At-Home & Outdoors Pollinators for ages 5-7 and 8-12 on May 14; Benjamin Banneker: Astronomy Pioneer on June 11 or 25; as well as Maple Town Tune Traders Jam Sessions the fourth Thursday evening of each month and Geauga Skywatchers Club meetings the first Monday evening of each month.
