Maliyah Lorenzo (Loiczly), of Russell Township, competed in the Miss Ohio Teen USA pageant on Nov. 3-4 in Cincinnati.

She was the youngest in her teen division, Maliyah’s mother, Laylah Loiczly, said.

“She had two full days of competition against 18/19 year olds and she placed first runner up and put Russell on the map,” Laylah said.

Maliyah won Viewers’ Choice from WLWT Channel 5 in Cincinnati for best formal wear and received an award from the Miss Universe Organization, Laylah said.

“We are so proud and honored to have our Northeast Ohio girl as first runner up in the largest and most well respected pageant system in the United States,” she added.

Maliyah is involved in reading to local elementary schools about anti-bullying, donating emergency needs to Rescue Village, Missions Serving Haiti, Sub Zero Mission, Hannah’s Home and WomenSafe, and donates eggs from chickens she is raising.
