Local township and village road crews will again work with the Geauga County Department on Aging employees and volunteers to remove unwanted items, including appliances, wrapped mattresses and furniture, from seniors’ garages and yards during locally scheduled pickups.

SENIOR CENTER EVENTS

  • Heinen’s Wellness: April 22, 11 a.m. Heinen’s presents “Building Your Immune System.”
  • Historical Society: April 23, 1 p.m. Western Reserve Historical Society presents “Built for Good: Cleveland State Hospital.” Cost is $5. Register by April 19.

Middlefield Senior Center, 15820 Ridgewood Drive, Middlefield, 440-632-0611.

  • CPR and EpiPen Class: April 18, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. University Hospitals will provide hands on instruction to participants looking to learn CPR or brush up on skills. Registration required. Free. Lunch will be provided.
  • MyoFit: April 24, 10:30 a.m. Learn some tips on how to bend and move in the garden this summer and prevent injuries.

  • Heinen’s Health & Wellness: April 19, 11 a.m. Carol from Heinen’s will discuss foods and nutrition and provide samples.
  • Card Making Class: April 23, 10-11:30 a.m. Learn the art of homemade greeting cards with Bonnie and save money. Call to sign up.
  • Financial Seminar: April 25, 11 a.m. to noon. Edward Jones will present “Focus on Fixed Income-Taking an Interest in Bonds.” Lunch and entertainment will directly follow. Call to sign up.

Senior Trash Pick-Up Days

Local township and village road crews will again work with the Geauga County Department on Aging employees and volunteers to remove unwanted items, including appliances, wrapped mattresses and furniture, from seniors’ garages and yards during locally scheduled pickups.

Geauga seniors who want to sign up for the trash pick up must be 60 years of age and older and must be registered with the department on aging for 2019 one week prior to the pickup in order to be placed on the pickup list. 

The first four senior trash pickup days are:

Bainbridge Township: April 29, 30 and May 1.

Burton Village: May 9.

Burton Township: May 15.

April 26

UH Geauga and Geauga Department on Aging is offering a trip to the Dittrick Medical History Center and Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Cleveland and lunch at Mongolian BBQ. A bus will depart from Chardon Walmart at 9:15 a.m. The group will visit Dittrick first, followed by lunch at noon, finishing with the MOCA Cleveland visit. Lunch will be on your own. Cost is $28.

Seniors must be of active mobility: must be active and able to get on and off bus, walk longer distances and have energy and stamina to navigate on their own.

Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP

May 7, 1 p.m.

The Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP Chapter 4527 will meet at the Bainbridge Town Hall, 17826 Chillicothe Road, Bainbridge Township, for its annual spaghetti lunch catered by Café Michael’s. Reservations are required by April 26. Call Betty Scholz at 440-338-8321 for reservations.

After lunch, there will be a brief meeting for a Medicare discussion and to go over upcoming programs.

Food and staple collections will be accepted for the Food for Friends food pantry and Geauga County Dog shelter. Monetary donations are also appreciated.
