Fans of classic rock are in for a treat this summer as Those Men Inside My Brain, a high-energy tribute band from Cleveland, brings the unforgettable music of Cheap Trick to Chardon Square.

The group will perform from 7-9 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Chardon historic gazebo as part of the city’s Concerts in the Park summer series, a community favorite known for showcasing top-notch musical talent in a family-friendly and accessible setting.

Paying homage to Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Cheap Trick, the tribute band channels the original band’s spirit, said Dan Loy, bass player for Those Men Inside My Brain.

Cheap Trick’s success began with a live album, “Cheap Trick at Budokan,” which went triple platinum upon its 1979 release. Selling more than 20 million albums worldwide and releasing over 20 studio albums, the band has had multiple songs on the Billboard charts and a career spanning over five decades, Loy said.

Cheap Trick was celebrated for their musicianship in 2016, being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and recognized for their influence on generations of rock bands and their unique blend of punk and pop, he said.

“Cheap Trick really appeals to everyone,” Loy said. “They have influenced so many bands after them like Nirvana, Foo Fighters and Weezer.”

Those Men Inside My Brain, named after the Cheap Trick song “Dream Police’s” chorus, has built a setlist to feature a powerhouse lineup of hits from every Cheap Trick era, including many fan favorites.

Loy, Pete Ortenzi, who plays guitar, Chris Noble, who plays drums, and singer Blair Cameron assembled the band in 2018, starting in Cleveland and now playing throughout Ohio and its neighboring states, says Those Men Inside My Brain’s website.

“For our show, we’ve settled on a really great set of many different hits,” Loy said. “We are also debuting a couple new songs for our group and including a tribute to Ozzy (Osbourne) since he’s just passed.”

Whether you grew up a Cheap Trick superfan or are hearing these classics for the first time, the show promises something for everyone, he said.

“This is a show for long-time fans, new audiences and rock-n-rollers of all ages,” Loy said. “Cheap Trick has had such a long career through five decades and has played so many different kinds of things and so there’s something for everyone. We are proud of our show because of that.”

Formed with the goal of celebrating one of America’s most influential rock acts, Those Men Inside My Brain offers more than a note-for-note replication, playing dynamic performances that stay true to Cheap Trick’s signature style – melodic, riff-heavy and endlessly catchy – while adding in their own musical talent, Loy said.

The concert is free and open to the public.

“We’re happy to invite the people of Chardon out to have a great night,” Loy said.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and settle in for a night of timeless rock under the stars.
