The office of U.S. Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) will host a Military Academy Information Day on Saturday, Sept. 19.
“For those that want to attend a service academy, I want to make it as easy as possible for them to learn how to do that,” said Joyce. “So, I encourage anyone who is interested to attend and find out the steps they need to take to make their goal a reality.”
The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Auburn Career Center’s Technology Learning Center Building located at 8221 Auburn Road in Concord Township.
Representatives from the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy (West Point), U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Coast Guard Academy have been invited to attend, make presentations and take questions.
The program is open to students of all ages and their families. Anyone who has an interest in learning more about the service academies and the nomination process is welcome to attend.

Elections Board Unveils New Website
The Geauga County Board of Elections has unveiled a new and improved website, www.co.geauga.oh.us/Departments/BOE, that will allow voters to look up their own registration information.
It also will allow voters to:
• Find their polling place,
• Search for the status of their absentee ballot,
• Get a sample ballot for their specific address, and
• Download voter and absentee lists sorted by name, street, precinct as well as absentee voter lists, polling locations and street lists.
All information is accessible and sample ballots are available now. Candidate and It’ssue lists also are available for the Nov. 3 general election.
“We are all very excited about this new service available to our Geauga
voters,” said election board Director Roberta Halford. “It will provide so much more information to our voters, candidates and issue committees.”
Added Halford, “Everyone will have the ability to print lists and labels for registered voters, absentees, polling locations, street lists, etc.”
Available on the new website as well are elected officials lists, information on working at the polls, candidate and issue lists, election results, access to the Ohio Secretary of State website and access to the Geauga Conty Auditor’s Office’s Tax Fact$ Levy Brochure and calculator.
“We are proud of this new website,” Deputy Director Deborah Reiter said. “We hope the site will be used frequently by all the residents of Geauga County. We will continue to add other features and as we see the need.”
Chardon City Openings
The City of Chardon has openings on the Cable Television Commission, Tax Incentive Review Council, Public Power Commisison, Board of Ethics Review, Park and Recreation Board, Shade Tree Commission and Audit Committee.
To be eligible to serve, an individual must be a registered voter and a resident of the City of Chardon.
Anyone interested in serving in one of these voluntary positions should submit a letter of interest to the office of Clerk of Council Amy Day at 111 Water St., Chardon, OH 44024.
House, Senate Candidates Present
Don Eckhart, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, and Sarah LaTourette, incumbent candidate for the Ohio House, will present their views on significant issues at the next meeting of the Geauga County Tea Party.
The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at The West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road, Russell Township.
After their presentations, they will answer questions from the audience.
