The Pride event on Chardon Square Saturday far exceeded the expectations of organizers Meg Carver and Mary Briggs.
“I wasn’t expecting too much being the first year and being in Geauga County,” Carver said June 20. “But it turned out amazingly. We had over 600 people attend. There was just nothing but smiles and joy and gratitude from the community. It was a very fulfilling day for me.”
Attendance was robust from the moment the event kicked off at 2 p.m., Carver said.
“Then attendance buffed right back up for the drag show,” she said. “The amount of families that came to the drag show, it was an awesome time. It was fun, and educational and just energy-filled. It was a great time.”
When asked if they plan to hold another Pride event next year, Carver said, “Absolutely. Based on the feedback from this year, next year is just going to be bigger and better.”
