The Troy Township Trustees board is getting an overhaul after the Nov. 4 election, with newcomers Eric Mathews and Anthony Hylton claiming the two available seats.

The two were the top vote-getters, with 355 and 347 votes, respectively, out of 899 cast in the race, according to the final unofficial results of the Geauga County Board of Elections.

They beat fellow candidate Jeannine Reeves, who garnered 197 votes, according to the elections board.

Mathews thanked voters for their support.

“I’m very proud and overwhelmed with the support and the votes I got and I can promise them I’m going to be there for them and look forward to getting Troy back on track and undoing some wrongs and making it right for everyone,” he said.

Mathews added that he aims to “get the fire department back on track” in terms of membership and wants to also be more available and transparent with residents.

According to his election questionnaire, Mathews is the Parkman Township Road Department superintendent, Windham Fire District captain and a firefighter at Garrettsville Freedom Nelson Fire District.

He is also the former chief of the Troy Township Fire Department, having resigned in December of 2023.

“Troy residents deserve Troy trucks coming to their calls for help,” he said in his questionnaire.

Hylton did not respond to a request for comment by press deadline, nor did he complete the Geauga Maple Leaf’s candidate questionnaire.
